Alex Pardee

This image is really striking to me as it is a contrast to Alex Pardee's usual work of the linear elements and bright ink marks. I particularly like this image due to the clever use of the material being worked upon. The colour of the paper is incorporated into the image and used as the mid tones. I feel this works really well to create a contrasting image which is striking to say that it is very linear. The clever use of white at the bottom draws attention and is made in such a way that the marks look a little like smoke. I feel the image has a quite steampunk inspired look to it, and a vintage style, which is another element which inspires me a lot within my work. I feel the simple use of shading and minimalist style to the drawing actually gives it much more detail than overloading with lots of texture and shows that not all images that are amazing are ones with the most detail etc put into them. I would like to try and create some imagery similar to this at some point and try a more minimalistic approach to see if this provides as good an effect within my work.
